GoDaddy.com is very good at selling year one. A new-customer .com promo is often advertised around a couple of dollars. This article assumes $1.99* for that first year. That is an assumption, not a published list price — ads change. It is also not the price of owning the name.
The product you actually bought is a .com on GoDaddy’s registrar. After the promo, the published renewal has been about $22.99 a year. That is the line that repeats, on auto-renew, until you change it.
GoPapa is an authorized GoDaddy reseller (partner ID 500766). The domain registration card on this site is $12.99 a year. Checkout is still on GoDaddy’s secureserver.net. You are not moving to a no-name registrar. You are buying the same product on a different price list.
The $22.99 renewal is a September 2026 published GoDaddy.com figure. The $12.99 figure is the domain registration card on this site. The $1.99* year-1 promo is the modeled ad. Confirm the cart before you pay.
The promo is a first-year coupon, not a discount on the domain
GoDaddy’s retail site has two jobs: win the click, then collect the renewal. The first-year ad does the first job. It is usually limited (new customer, one name, a code that expires). Nothing in that ad promises that year two stays at $1.99*.
The pattern this page uses for a standard .com:
- Year 1* (assumption): $1.99 new-customer promo — not a list price.
- GoDaddy.com renewal: about $22.99 every year after.
- GoPapa .com card: $12.99 every year, same registrar.
Take the $1.99* ad, then sit on GoDaddy.com auto-renew, and five years totals about $93.95 ($1.99 + 4 × $22.99). Five years at the $12.99 card is $64.95. The ad wins year one and is still ahead at the end of year two. The card pulls ahead at year three.
Year 1 on GoDaddy.com is an assumption of $1.99 — a typical new-customer .com promo, not a published list price. Ads change. Years 2–5 use the ~$22.99 renewal. The .com card on this site is $12.99 every year. Confirm the live cart.
GoPapa .com card ($12.99/yr) GoDaddy.com .com $1.99* year 1, then $22.99/yr
Year 5: about $29 less on one .com, about $290 less on ten — even after giving GoDaddy.com the $1.99* year-1 promo. The GoPapa line is the domain registration card on this site. Confirm the live cart.
| Year | GoDaddy.com | GoPapa card | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1* | $1.99* | $12.99 | −$11.00 |
| Year 2 | $24.98 | $25.98 | −$1.00 |
| Year 3 | $47.97 | $38.97 | $9.00 |
| Year 4 | $70.96 | $51.96 | $19.00 |
| Year 5 | $93.95 | $64.95 | $29.00 |
One .com is $29 over five years even after giving GoDaddy.com the cheap first year. Ten names is $290. That is not a mystery coupon and not a different brand of DNS. It is not paying the retail renewal after the ad expires.
If the name is already registered, the promo is gone
You already used the $1.99* promo, or you registered somewhere else at full price. Either way you are not a “new customer” on that name anymore. The next invoice is the renewal.
A transfer into the GoPapa reseller portal does three useful things:
- GoDaddy stays the registrar. Wild West Domains / GoDaddy is still who ICANN sees.
- A transfer adds a year at the reseller rate. It does not wipe time you already paid for.
- DNS, the website, and email keep running unless you change nameservers. A transfer is not a site move.
Stay on GoDaddy.com renewals and five years is about $114.95 per .com (5 × $22.99). Transfer and hold at the $12.99 card: $64.95. $50 kept on one name, $500 on ten.
GoPapa .com card ($12.99/yr) GoDaddy.com .com renewal ($22.99/yr)
Year 5: about $50 less on one .com, about $500 less on ten. The GoPapa line is the domain registration card on this site. Confirm the live cart.
| Year | GoDaddy.com | GoPapa card | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | $22.99 | $12.99 | $10.00 |
| Year 2 | $45.98 | $25.98 | $20.00 |
| Year 3 | $68.97 | $38.97 | $30.00 |
| Year 4 | $91.96 | $51.96 | $40.00 |
| Year 5 | $114.95 | $64.95 | $50.00 |

When the $1.99* ad still wins
If you only need the name for a single year and you will let it drop, take the GoDaddy.com promo. Reseller pricing is a hold price. Do not transfer a throwaway landing domain to save a renewal you will never pay.
If you plan to keep the name — a business, a brand, a mailbox — the first-year ad is the expensive path. Transfer after year one, or register through the reseller portal from the start so you never meet the $22.99 line.
What this is not
- Not a different registrar pretending to be GoDaddy.
- Not a web-dev or SEO retainer. GoPapa resells GoDaddy products.
- Not a live cart scrape. Promos and floors move. The box above opens the real transfer cart.
